It’s an early Saturday morning, and you are a journalist preparing for a battle of truth in a land so familiar yet so alien.
As the bus you hop on departs the terminal, you hear the culpable phrase, “Pagmata nako naa nata!” The bus erupts in simple laughter, though this idea is not unfounded. Situated only around 11 kilometers from the bustling town of Calubian, this quaint seaside area shows to us that though small, the town will proudly show you what it takes to be so noteworthy.
As you climb the sleepy mountains of Petrolio, Linao, and the approach to Capiñahan, Saint Isidore the Farmer guides his fellows in harvesting the crops they field. Assorted coconuts, barley, and so much more are sold in the markets both near and far.
Passing the crown that is the campus of SINHS, you physically enter the lowlands of the town, but you have spiritually arrived at the heart of it all. the warm sun caresses your skin, massaging you as if a welcome to the quaint town. the children play along the rolling fields, the smell of freshly baked bibingkas and empanadas fill the air as people line up to streetside vendors. As the venerable Central School enters your view, the teachers wave a pleasant good morning to you.
As you continue your journey, the ever grand and stunning twin bell towers of the Parish blesses you with provident guidance, making sure that you are safe in this tightly-knitten town center. The tall, looming trees provides shade near the Town Hall and the Market as you munch on your snacks.
You then hear a serene song, the ever-picturesque bay-walk provide a firm place to watch the serene Camotes Sea, where local fishermen catch local fish. While eating corn, and reaching corn nirvana I might add, the sun sets in the horizon. As if a painter has woken up, a beautiful orange hue covers the dimming sky.
You end your travels at the lovable 7/11, where you spend so much money you might go hungry. But don’t fret, for we all know that San Isidro is indeed a Cornucopia of Delights.
